A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY for the adventurous to experience staying on a historic castle islet. The tide surrounds the island when it is in adding to the feeling of seclusion. A ten minute walk along the causeway from St Helier at low tide, or high water daytime access by passenger amphibious vehicle is available.
The islet history dates back to 1155 when the original building was a priory and monastary. The first known plans for defences on the island was 1550. The lower ward of the castle was constructed between 1626 and 1636. Sir Walter Raleigh was governor of Jersey between 1600 and 1603 named the castle after Elizabeth I. The castle was used for defences by the Germans in World War II. To this day the noon day gun is fired.
The castle guardian is based on site, and after the castle is closed you
will have the key to the main gate, and the castle is yours to explore.
What could be better than to watch the sun rise and set from the ramparts of your very own castle? This is without doubt an unusual and diverse holiday experience.
