Guernsey is different. It will be the first thing that strikes you on arrival. It is different from the rest of the world - even from its larger neighbour, Jersey. The pace of life is much slower and the values and attitudes more traditional. Guernsey people were named aas the happiest in the world in a world-wide survey a few years ago - that is probably something to do with their carefree and happy attitude.
The island only measures 7 miles by 4 so everywhere is close. The rugged coastline and country villages are a dream for walkers. The less energetic can make use of the bus services which reach most corners of the island. After a hard day exploring, the gastronomes amongst you can enjoy a abundance of good food especially the seafood, which is always fresh and in abundance.
St Peter Port, Guernsey's capital, is steeped in a rich history. It is the oldest settlement in the Channel Islands. Rising steeply out of its magnificent harbour, with cobbled streets and granite houses. With strict development regulations, the traditional feel of the town is retained. Exploring the picturesque lanes and streets and shopping in the array of high street and local stores is a delight. If you don't like to shop you can enjoy a coffee (or something stronger) in a choice of quaint bars and restaurants.
