The first thing that strikes you on arrival in Guernsey is, its different. Different from the rest of the world - even from its larger counterpart, Jersey. The pace of life is slower, the values and attitudes more traditional. A world-wide survey a few years ago named Guernsey people as the happiest in the world - Probably something to do with the carefree and happy attitude. The
Countryside - The island measures just 7 miles by 4 so nowhere is far.
The rugged coastline and country villages make walking a dream. For the less
energetic the bus services reaches most corners of the island. After a hard day exploring,
the gastronomes amongst you can enjoy a profusion of good food especially the
seafood. The Town
- St Peter Port is steeped in history. In fact, it is the oldest settlement in the Channel
Islands. Rising steeply out of its magnificent harbour, with cobbled streets and granite
houses. The traditional feel of the town is retained due to the stringent
development regulations. Exploring the picturesque streets and lanes and shopping in the
array of high street and local stores is a delight. Those that dont like to
shop can enjoy a coffee (or something stronger) in the choice of quaint bars and
restaurants.
